Jan 17, 2017
Ean Oprean was nothing short of spectacular Tuesday night.
The senior torched the nets to the tune of 34 points to lead the Neshannock High boys basketball team to a 59-54 home victory over WPIAL 3-2A foe Laurel.
Oprean has been forced to take command of a Lancers (4-3 section, 9-4 overall) squad that has lost both Brandon Scheidemantle and Chris Scott for the season due to anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
“I can’t talk enough about the effort Ean Oprean gave us tonight,” Neshannock coach John Corey said. “After losing such great guards like we have this year, Ean just played flat out like a champion tonight. They were running at him and tiring him out and he just kept battling and battling.”
Ty Sear chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lancers, who also were without guard Chris Maize on the night due to illness.
Mason Mraz scored 19 points to lead the way for the Spartans (4-3, 11-3) while Coltin Esposito chipped in with 15.
“It’s a huge win for us,” Corey said. “I can’t be more proud of our guys. We preached it and they lived up to it, they went out and battled for 32 minutes.”
