Tuesday night's game against Reynolds is one that the Wilmington High boys basketball team likely will long remember.
And not in a good way.
A 75-foot shot by the Raiders' Jacob Reimold that was deemed good by the officials resulted in the Greyhounds' 68-66 District 10, Region 2-AA homecourt loss.
Spencer DeMedal made a layup to put Wilmington up by a point with 1.8 seconds left, after which Reynolds inbounded the ball under the Greyhounds' basket.
Video posted on several sites following the game appeared to support Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch's claim that the shot, which banked off the backboard before going in, was taken after the buzzer.
"We have the video that proves it was after the buzzer," Jeckavitch said. "We tried to talk to the officials, but they ran to the locker room. This one is so heartbreaking because we needed this game for playoff seeding.
"At the same time," he added, "we were very lackadaisical on defense. When you give up 68 points, you don't deserve to win."
Jimmy Powers scored 16 points and DeMedal added 15 points and five assists for the Greyhounds. Jared Berlin led in rebounding with seven.
Reimold paced Reynolds with 21 points.
Wilmington (5-6, 10-11) is now a game behind the Raiders (6-5, 8-13) in the battle for playoff seeding.
