Neshannock girls survive against Aliquippa
Neshannock (51) Vs. Aliquippa (49)
Feb 08, 2016
The Lady Lancers survived with a 51-49 nonsection road victory over the Lady Quips.
Aliquippa had the ball in the final seconds and missed a field goal. The ball went out of bounds off a Neshannock player with two seconds to go. The Lady Quips inbounded the ball but they couldn't get a shot off before the final horn.
"Aliquippa played a zone the whole game," said Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski, who is a former Aliquippa bench boss. "We didn't shoot well. We didn't rebound. But it's a win.
"I'd like to be playing our best at this time of year. For some reason, we aren't. When you don't shoot well, you better rebound and we didn't rebound. I know it's not easy to go play a game that doesn't really mean a whole lot. But you have to be ready to play every game."
The Lady Lancers (18-3), who had a double-digit lead before the Lady Quips (6-15) regrouped, shot just 18 of 57 from the field.
Aidan Noga notched 12 points with three steals and three assists to lead the Lady Lancers. Stephanie Paras and Bella Burrelli added 10 tallies apiece. Burrelli contributed three steals.
Carmie Matarazzo chipped in with seven markers and eight boards for the winners.
Bri’Elle Sims supplied a team-high 14 points for Aliquippa.
