'Canes fall in final moments
New Castle (51) Vs. Pine-Richland (56)
Jan 22, 2008
For more than 30 minutes the New Castle High boys team played good basketball.
But it was the final 90 seconds that cost the Red Hurricane in a 56-51 WPIAL Section 3-AAAA loss at Pine-Richland last night.
“We gave this one away,” New Castle coach Mark Stanley said. “We needed to step up, but instead we made some big errors and didn’t take care of the basketball.”
The ’Canes (3-7 section, 7-12 overall) had a 24-21 lead at the half and went up 39-34 after three quarters. New Castle, however, was outscored 22-12 in the fourth.
Tyrone Steals had 20 points and added seven rebounds for New Castle while Nick Colella collected 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Brett Matson led the Rams (4-5, 12-7) with 19 points and Kevin Wissinger followed with 11.
