The Trojans outscored the Spartans 20-15 in the fourth quarter to claim the 65-60 nonsection win in the Coaches vs. Cancer Slam at Slippery Rock, which was held at Slippery Rock University. The game was part of a four-game schedule for the event.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (10-7) led 14-11 after one quarter and 27-25 at the break.
Laurel (14-4), which clinched a playoff Friday in a win over Shenango, trailed 12-4 early but battled back to forge a 60-60 deadlock with a minute left.
"I don't think it was one of our better performances," Laurel coach Ken Locke said. "In the course of the long season, you're not going to play good every game.
"We needed to grind it out there in the last minute and we just couldn't do it."
Mason Mraz tossed in a game-high 25 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Spartans. Jordan Dantico was next with 10 markers.
Tristan Newcamp paced the Trojans with 16 points.
