Quick start propels Union boys
Union (52) Vs. Cornell (38)
Jan 19, 2016
All the Union High boys basketball team needed was a quick start.
The Scotties received just that, giving them enough of a push to bring the Scotties to a WPIAL Section 1-A victory over host Cornell on Tuesday night.
Union (6-2 section, 8-7 overall) jumped to a 13-4 first-quarter lead, giving the Scotties enough of a cushion to take the victory.
"We got out of the gates well, we played really well in the first 12 minutes," Union coach Mark Stanley said. "But it was a good team effort tonight, Joey Crivelli hit some big threes in the fourth.
Crivelli paced Union with 13 points, while Garrison Bell added 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in what Stanley called his best overall game.
"Everyone knows he's getting the ball, so early on he was dishing off to his teammates," Stanley said. "When everyone gets involved, defenses can't just stick with him. He didn't force the action and it's important to get the other guys involved."
