Neshannock (90) Vs. Shenango (49)
Jan 15, 2016
Neshannock looked to bounce back Friday night.
The Lancers bounced Shenango in the process, 90-49, in WPIAL Section 1-AA action.
The homestanding Wildcats (2-5 section, 3-13 overall) held a 10-7 lead with 3:34 left in the first quarter. However, the Lancers (5-2, 10-4) erupted for an 18-0 run to close out the frame. That gave the guests a 25-10 lead at the buzzer.
Neshannock, which was coming off back-to-back losses to section foes Lincoln Park and Laurel, scored 27 more points in the second quarter to post a 47-27 advantage at the intermission.
Jake Rylott led the Lancers’ offensive attack in the first half. He tallied 15 of his game-high 30 points in the first two quarters.
Neshannock outscored Shenango, 24-11, in the third to pull away.
“Offensively, I thought we came out and played well. We didn’t shoot the ball real well on Tuesday night from the line or the field. It was nice to see us hit a couple and get things going,” Neshannock coach John Corey said. “Giving up 27 at halftime, I thought was a bit ridiculous for us. We hold these guys to a higher standard than that. So, as much as I was pleased to see us come out and put some points on the board and kind of get back in the flow, defensively, giving up 17 in that second quarter is unacceptable. So we have to find out what the heck happened there and shore that up.”
Ethan Moose added 17 points in the victory for the Lancers, who are tied with Laurel for second place in the section. Jason Swope tossed in 15 points and Brandon Scheidemantle tossed in 13 points.
Matt McMillen led Shenango with 11 points.
