Shenango falls to Riverside
Shenango (35) Vs. Riverside (47)
Jan 14, 2016
The third quarter was a nightmare for the Lady Wildcats as they dropped a 47-35 Section 1-AA decision to visiting Riverside.
Shenango (4-3, 7-5) was outscored 16-6 in the third quarter after trailing by just one point at halftime and never recovered from the deficit.
"The three section losses we've had, we had one down quarter," Shenango coach Jason Rankin said. "We started the third, missed a good shot and they came down and scored. They out-worked us, they got second chances, got to the basket and, emotionally, I think we got a little bit frustrated. One or two bad possessions turn into four and five."
Free throws played a key part in the loss, as the Lady Wildcats only hit eight of their 17 attempts from the charity stripe, including 2-of-8 in the first half.
"That came back to bite us," Rankin said. "It's just one of those things that it's a tough section with good teams and good coaches. You have to be ready, they're all battling and we're battling for the playoffs and the section title. It puts a damper on (the title) but we're still trying to get to the playoffs.”
Emma Rich had 10 points and Jacqui Baker chipped in nine points and 13 rebounds for Shenango.
