Wilmington defeats Sharpsville
Wilmington (47) Vs. Sharpsville (32)
Jan 11, 2016
The Lady Greyhounds continued their improvement with the 47-32 District 10, Region 2-AA victory.
Wilmington, which is 2-2 in the region, 4-9 overall, finished with just three region wins last year, which coach Matt Fabian says is an indication that the team is showing improvement.
"This was a big game for us — I felt that there was a big difference between us being 2-2 or 1-3," Fabian said. "We had a couple of nice leads, then Sharpsville cut it to six in the fourth quarter, but we were able to close out, which is something we wouldn't have been able to do last year.
"We had a good defensive effort, a lot of hands in their faces and on offense, we took care of the ball and made our free throws."
Sophomore Jenna Peoples led the Lady Greyhounds with 14 points in her first start of the season.
"I started Jenna Peoples for the first time and she made me look smart," Fabian said with a chuckle. "The 8 of 8 from the free-throw line really made a difference — and she is a post player, so you don't expect that."
