Aryn Boyer had the chance to play hero on Monday night.

She came through for the Wilmington High girls basketball team, as she hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to push the Lady Greyhounds to a 34-33 District 10, Region 2-AA victory over visiting Lakeview. It was the region opener for both schools.

Boyer's shot with 20 seconds remaining, coupled with a Wilmington fourth-quarter defense that held Lakeview to just four points, helped the Greyhounds improve to 2-5 overall.

Lexi Brumbaugh and Lauren Frederick led Wilmington with eight points each.

The Lady Greyhounds trailed by seven points with four minutes remaining and cut it to two points with less than a minute, setting up Boyer's heroics.

Lakeview had two opportunities to retake the lead thanks to Wilmington missing the front-end of a one-and-one, but failed to convert.

The victory was made sweeter by the fact that Wilmington struggled in close games last year. The Lady Greyhounds lost four games by two points or less a year prior.

"It's nice to see us on that other end," Wilmington coach Matt Fabian said. "We saw it last year where we blew games in the end, it feels good as a coach to be on the other side of it. But now we have to shift our attention to the next game."
