Neshannock holds off Quaker Valley
Neshannock (45) Vs. Quaker Valley (41)
Dec 28, 2015
It wasn't pretty, but the Lady Lancers got it done in the opening round
of the Shenango Holiday Tournament -- a 45-41 win over Quaker Valley.

"Sometimes you win ugly," Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said, "and this was one of those nights.

"But it's a win and we'll take it."

Carmie Matarazzo paced the victors (7-1) with 14 points and Stephanie Paras added 11. Bella Burrelli had five rebounds and four steals, Aidan Noga four assists and Matarazzo eight rebounds.

The saving grace for the Lady Lancers proved to be 3-point field goals— eight in all.

They hit six in the first half, three each from Matarazzo and Paras, after which they led, 26-21.

Neshannock hit just 5 of 24 from 2-point range and 8 of 12 from 3-point land.

They had a 6-2 kid in the paint (Alana Davidson), she probably blocked five or six shots, including the first four," Grybowski said. "So we started kicking it out for threes and, luckily, we hit them."

The Lady Lancers play Hopewell at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the final round.
