Dec 22, 2015
Those in the Laurel High gym probably won't soon forget Tuesday night.
Spartans senior stars Scott Siddall and Jacob Wilson cracked the 1,000-point career scoring mark within less than 3 minutes of each other near the end of the first half of Tuesday night's 84-44 WPIAL Section 1-AA victory over New Brighton.
Siddall scored his 1,000th with 3:41 left in the second quarter; Wilson hit the magic number with 35 seconds left in the frame. Neither played in the second half.
"I don't know if I've ever seen anything like that," Laurel coach Ken Locke said. "This type of night doesn't come around all the time, that's for sure. It was something special.
"When I got the job, they were freshmen, so they've been with me from the beginning. And they are special kids who understand that those 2,000 points only came because of a lot of assists and a lot of rebounds by their teammates. So they were happy to share this honor with their teammates."
Laurel (2-1 section, 7-1 overall) led 66-14 at the half. Wilson led the Spartans with 24 points and Siddall added 20. Mason Mraz chipped in with 10 points. Mraz had 14 rebounds and six assists and Wilson added five steals.
New Brighton slipped to 1-3 and 2-5.
