Stelter lifts Mohawk girls past Beaver Falls

Carlee Stelter stepped up when the Mohawk High girls basketball team needed her most.

Stelter's free throw with 3.5 seconds remaining helped push the Lady Warriors to a WPIAL Section 1-AA victory over host Beaver Falls, 29-28, on Monday.

Mohawk (2-0 section, 5-0 overall) remained unbeaten despite trailing 13-6 after the first quarter.

"We didn't play defense very well early in the game. We just had a hard time," Mohawk coach Mike O'Lare said. "We just didn't play very well in the first quarter defensively and we let (them) get good looks."

Erin Giancola led Mohawk with nine points, while Stelter followed with eight.
