Laurel (62) Vs. Rochester (41)
Feb 10, 2015
Ellen Shaffer recorded her 1,000th point in her final game, a nonsection win over visiting Rochester.
The senior scored a game-high 24 points and finished her career with the Lady Spartans with 1,019 points, second-best in the program behind only Rebecca Myers’ 1,206 points.
“It’s a short list. She’s just a phenomenal athlete,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “She’s been so much fun to coach. The girls were so good, the passing and moving of the ball and giving her the extra look was really good. Then to be able to win to go out with a win was great.”
Kristin Dicks ended the game with 14 points and eight assists for the winners.
Maddison Deinert added eight points and 10 rebounds for Laurel (8-14), but it was her defensive presence that impressed Shevitz.
“Tonight, she was our leading rebounder,” Shevitz said. “We also put her on (Demi) McFrazier and she held her to two baskets. Maddi’s defense was phenomenal. She just played great.”
Alayah Mullins led the Lady Rams (9-11) with 16 points.
