The Lady Warriors snared a share of the Section 1-AA championship with a road win over the Lady Wildcats.
Mohawk (10-2, 16-4) will share the title with Neshannock (10-2, 17-3). The teams split the series, with each team winning at home.
“I’m just really proud of our kids,” Lady Warriors coach Mike O’Lare said. “We set our sights on this in the beginning of the year.
“The closer you get to it, the pressure starts to mount.”
The Lady Warriors trailed 7-4 after one quarter before rallying for a 17-12 lead at the half.
“Mohawk was pretty stifling,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “They jumped everything they could jump.
“They were in the right spot every time we turned around. There wasn’t a shot that was uncontested. It just wasn’t a very good game. Hats off to them. They played really good defense.”
O’Lare noted his team’s defense picked up in the second quarter.
“I know we made a few mistakes early in the first quarter and Shenango made some plays,” he said. “Then we tightened up defensively and our defense came through.
“Offensively, we kind of took the air out of the ball to keep the ball in the fourth quarter.”
Samantha Carr collected a game-high 11 points for Mohawk and Aliya Gage garnered eight.
Angelina Sibeto supplied a team-best eight markers for the Lady Wildcats and Samantha Seaburn was next with six.
