DeMedal keys Wilmington win
Wilmington (44) Vs. Greenville (43)

Spencer DeMedal came up big for the Wilmington High boys basketball team when it needed him most.
DeMedal’s block against Aaron Emmett secured the Greyhounds’ 44-43 victory over Greenville in a District 10, Region 2-AA meeting.
The sophomore guard also added a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds to the cause.
“Spencer had a block to seal the win last year,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “It was kind of funny it was the same place, just Spencer being Spencer. Being athletic and making the plays when we need them.”
Travis Brumbaugh totaled 11 points and six boards for the ’Hounds (4-5 region, 6-13 overall).
Marc Peoples was fouled with 10 seconds remaining and hit one of two free throws to give Wilmington the one-point lead. Jeckavitch switched his usual man-to-man defense to a 2-3 zone to give Greenville (6-4, 10-9) a different look.
“We kept it really simple today,” Jeckavitch said. “We went back to the drawing board and ran two offensive plays all game. It was a good point, a good chance to show something different. It may have taken (Greenville) by surprise a little bit.”
The Trojans missed the first attempt, but Emmett was able to corral the offensive rebound. DeMedal swatted it away for the win.
