A slow start proved costly for the New Castle High girls basketball team Saturday.
The Lady ’Canes dug a 15-point first-quarter hole and couldn’t recover in dropping a 52-20 WPIAL Section 2-AAA home decision to Beaver.
New Castle (1-9 section, 3-16 overall) trailed 19-4 after one period and 34-8 at the half.
Carmie Matarazzo posted a team-high 11 points for the Lady ’Canes.
Lexi Posset provided a game-best 27 markers for the Lady Bobcats (8-3, 13-5).
