Ellwood City outlasts Laurel

The Lady Wolverines took control in the third quarter en route to a
59-46 nonsection home win over the Lady Spartans.
Ellwood City Lincoln (8-10) pushed a 29-23 halftime advantage to 49-37
after three quarters.
“We only had one offensive rebound the whole game,” Laurel coach
Jessica Shevitz said. “They are so much bigger than we are. They got a
lot of second, third and fourth looks at the hoop.
“Younger girls are still stepping up and playing hard for us. It was a
good game to play.”
Allie McKelvey paced the Lady Wolverines with 17 points and a game-high
15 rebounds. She added a team-best six steals as well. Karington
Ketterer collected 15 points, five boards and four steals.
Bailey McKinney added nine markers and a team-high seven assists for
the winners.
Kristin Dicks delivered a team-high 15 points for Laurel (7-11) and
Ellen Shaffer added 11. Shaffer tallied 11 defensive rebounds and four
blocks as well.
Dicks handed out a team-high five assists.
Shaffer sits at 691 career rebounds, just one behind the school’s
all-time leader Lisa Dicks, who has 692. Lisa Dicks is a cousin of
Kristin Dicks.
“Ellen is still hitting the boards strong,” Shevitz said.
