Defense paved the way for the Spartans in a Section 1-AA home win over the Panthers.
“We played well in the first quarter as well as the second quarter,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “Defensively, this was probably by far our best defensive effort.
“I thought the guys really stepped up on the defensive end.”
The Spartans (8-1, 13-3) led 17-12 after one period and pushed the buffer to 35-19 at the break.
Scott Siddall supplied a game-high 28 points for Laurel and Jacob Wilson tossed in 14 markers with eight rebounds and four assists.
Mason Mraz added 10 points with seven assists, six rebounds and four blocks.
“Siddall played excellent for us,” Locke said. “He caught fire early and he really gave us a spark in the first half.
“I thought all of our guys played an excellent game.”
The Spartans were 30 of 54 from the field compared to 20 of 63 for Riverside (5-4, 8-8).
Zach Gould garnered a team-high 17 points for the Panthers.
