Gaston’s big game powers Shenango

Rich Gaston turned in another impressive performance.
The Shenango High junior forward scored 27 points to lead the Wildcats past Wilmington, 65-51, in nonleague action last night.
“I thought we played a good game,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “We stepped up in the second half and I was really pleased with the way we played defensively.”
Behind Shane Wagner’s 20 points in the first half, the Greyhounds (7-8) owned a 33-29 advantage. Wagner, who had four 3-pointers, did not score in the second half.
Shenango also held Ryan Foht scoreless. Foht entered the game averaging 13.2 points.
“I was pleased with our offense,” McQuiston said. “We took good shots. Our big guys did well down low while our guards did a good job shooting and passed well.”
Gaston’s 11 rebounds gave him a double-double. Senior guard Bryan Chieze also turned in a double-double with 11 points and 13 assists.
Mike Murcko contributed 15 points for the Wildcats (12-6).
Carson Sharbaugh and Dallas Hartman, who returned after missing eight games with a broken hand, each scored nine markers for Wilmington. Sharbaugh had three 3-pointers. Hartman
