Neshannock defeats Wilmington
Neshannock (78) Vs. Wilmington (63)
Jan 19, 2015
A tale of two quarters fell in the Neshannock High boys basketball team’s favor.

The Lancers scored 30 second-quarter points, but allowed 25 third-quarter markers to host Wilmington.

It was enough for the Lancers, however, to post a 78-63 nonsection victory over the Greyhounds.

“We had five guys hit a three in that second quarter,” Neshannock coach John Corey said. “Scoring was very balanced that quarter, we shot the ball well. Went into halftime with a decent lead, came out in the third quarter and gave up 25. Defensively, we didn’t play well in that quarter.”

Ethan Moose led all scorers with 24 points, adding seven rebounds, four steals, four blocks and four assists to his night.

Jake Rylott added 12 points and five assists, while Frank Fraschetti totaled 11 points for the Lancers (10-4).

Spencer DeMedal tallied 22 points and seven boards for the ’Hounds (3-11) and Travis Brumbaugh contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilmington started off slow, but was able to bring the Lancers’ lead down to three points. A cold fourth quarter, however, stalled any chance of a comeback.

“We started the game down 10-0 to start,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “You can’t do that against good teams. We did lose by 15, but I thought our guys battled and played well with the exception of the beginning of the game and the fourth quarter. We have to correct those mistakes and score when we get those opportunities.

“We played well in the third and the shots were falling but they weren’t there in the fourth. We couldn’t make the shots when we needed to.”
