Wilmington boys fall short
Greenville (51) Vs. Wilmington (47)
Jan 09, 2015
The host ’Hounds kept pace, but ultimately fell to District 10, Region 2-AA foe Greenville.
Wilmington (1-2, 2-7) used a 12-7 third quarter to take a two-point lead heading into the final quarter and had the game tied with a minute remaining.
It’s not the result head coach Mike Jeckavitch wanted but, with a young squad that had only one senior in Marc Peoples playing in the final minutes of the game, there are some positives.
“We tell our guys that the more they play in these situations, the more they’ll be prepared,” Jeckavitch said. “I see sophomores and freshmen, you take the growing pains and hopefully you learn from these lessons.”
One of those sophomores, Spencer DeMedal, has started to take ownership of the leading scorer role.
DeMedal scored a game-high 29 points and added eight rebounds and five assists.
“Give credit to Spencer, he stepped up and controlled the game.” Jeckavitch said. “He’s a quiet kid, but he’s taken that leadership role.”
Greenville is 2-2, 5-6.
Travis Brumbaugh received two technical fouls and was disqualified from the game in the third quarter. He finished with six points and six rebounds and will be unavailable for Wilmington’s game against Jamestown tomorrow.
