Mistakes proved costly for the Lady Wildcats in a loss to the Lady Vikings in the opener of the Neshannock Christmas Tournament.

“We had too many turnovers,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We had some forced turnovers against their press in the second period.

“We forced some passing and had too many turnovers.”

Shenango (6-2) trailed 41-27 before cutting it to 46-38 heading to the final frame.

“Our goal at halftime was to get it to 10 at the end of the third period and have the momentum,” Turk said. “I thought we did an awesome job in the third quarter getting back in the game. We just didn’t come out and put enough points on the board in the fourth quarter.’

Angelina Sibeto supplied 16 markers for the Lady Wildcats and Carolyn Peterson provided 15. Samantha Seaburn was next with 12.

Amber Falletta paced all scorers with 24 points for Hopewell (4-4).
