Emma Rich made the most of her opportunity and helped host Shenango top Wilmington in a nonsection victory.

The junior sent home a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to help propel the Lady Wildcats (4-1) to their fourth win of the season.

Rich finished with six points, while Samantha Seaburn paced Shenango with nine points.

Hannah Drake led all scorers with 14 points.

“We let them get a few open looks and they knocked down their shots,” Wilmington coach Matt Fabian said. “It was just a fun game to coach, watch all around. We were tooth and nail all the way to the fourth quarter.”

The Lady ’Hounds (2-4) led by three following the first quarter, but a 14-7 Shenango advantage in the second gave them the lead. Rich’s trifecta, accompanied by a large rebounding margin, helped the Lady Wildcats secure the victory.

“The fourth quarter we got hurt a little bit,” Fabian said. “We didn’t locate Rich, who had a big three against us. We did good defensively, but we got outrebounded 34-15. Everyone has to step up and when you get outrebounded by 20, it’s hard to win.”

Attempts to reach Shenango coach Brian Turk were unsuccessful.
