Wilmington girls roll
Wilmington (50) Vs. Jamestown (4)
Dec 10, 2014
The Wilmington High girls basketball team could do no wrong last night.
The Lady Greyhounds turned in a strong defensive effort in rolling to a 50-4 nonregion victory over Jamestown.
It was a collective offensive performance from the homestanding Lady ’Hounds (1-3), as no player reached double-digit points.
Reilly Hunt was the leading scorer with nine points. Hannah Drake followed with eight and Lexi Brumbaugh had six.
Wilmington jumped out to a 30-0 lead after the first quarter, setting the tone for what would be a long game for Jamestown.
Jamestown scored all four of its points in the second quarter, hitting one field goal and cashing in on two free throws.
“It was nice, but when you come out 30-0, at a certain point, you don’t get anything from the game,” Wilmington coach Matt Fabian said. “That’s when it’s tough to keep them playing hard and playing aggressive, but not too aggressive.”
The road for Wilmington gets a little rockier with its next opponent, a good matchup to prepare for its first region game against West Middlesex.
“We have Rocky Grove on Monday and from what I hear they’re fairly good. It’ll be a nice challenge,” Fabian said. “Hopefully we can get two in a row heading into the game against West Middlesex.”
