Laurel (57) Vs. Clarion (39)
Dec 08, 2014
Ellen Shaffer’s 22 points helped the Lady Spartans post the win at the Kittanning tipoff tournament.

Laurel (1-1) had a 17-7 lead after the first and a 31-9 halftime advantage.

“We played better. We fixed the problems we were having,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “We had 18 assists as a team; the passing was phenomenal. We were very unselfish.”

Aleyce Bell had nine points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Lady Spartans. Maddison Deinert added nine points and eight rebounds. Shaffer earned all-tournament team honors. Kristin Dicks, who had five assists and two points, was lauded for her defensive play against Lady Bobcats all-state performer Maci Thornton, who finished with 16 points.

“Outside of the fourth quarter when we were subbing girls in and out, Kristin held her to nine points. She played great,” Shevitz.
