Feb 11, 2014
The Wilmington High girls basketball remained in playoff contention last night.
Hannah Drake delivered a team-high 18 points to lead the Lady Greyhounds to a 58-46 District 10, Region 2-AA home win over West Middlesex.
Wilmington (7-4 region, 14-7 overall) remained in third place in the region behind Sharon and Mercer. The Lady Greyhounds close the regular season by hosting Greenville on Thursday.
“The way the numbers are falling, we’re in third place and they should take three teams from our region,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “We have to take care of business against Greenville. Hopefully, that’ll be enough to get us in the playoffs.”
The Lady Greyhounds erased an early 14-6 deficit by outscoring the Ms. Reds, 39-23, over the middle quarters.
“It was a little tighter than we hoped it would be, but it was still a great game for us,” Sanford said.
Wilmington struggled from the line, making just 14 of 35 of its attempts.
“We’ve been struggling from the line for like eight games now,” Sanford said. “I don’t know what the deal is there, because we make them in practice. It could be key in the future.”
Tessa Sikora contributed 11 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks for the Lady Greyhounds. Alanna Elliott and Dakota Naples each finished with 10 markers.
Kristen White posted a team-best 13 points for West Middlesex.
