Mohawk falls to Quips
Aliquippa (65) Vs. Mohawk (51)
Feb 05, 2014
The Quips outscored the host Warriors 21-10 in the second quarter to take command and claim a Section 2-AA victory.

Aliquippa (11-2, 15-5) led 35-22 at the break. Mohawk (3-10, 7-13) closed to within eight points with four minutes left in the game, but couldn’t get any closer.

The Quips are ranked No. 5 in the WPIAL in Class AA by the Post-Gazette and No. 7 in the state. They pulled into a first-place tie with Beaver Falls after the Tigers lost to Neshannock.

“Early in the game, Aliquippa wasn’t converting on their layups and their interior shots,” Warriors coach Rob Fadden said. “They did convert in the second quarter on those, mainly off our turnovers.

“Our guys didn’t quit, though.”

Zach Shasteen paced Mohawk with 18 points and Jonathan Grim was next with 16.

Darrien Fields registered 16 points to lead the Quips.
