Wilmington retained a solid hold on second place in District 10, Region 2-AA with a 66-62 comeback victory over Lakeview last night.
Wilmington (6-2 region 11-7 overall), remains two games behind West Middlesex in the region standings. The Big Reds lost to Beaver in nonregion action.
The Greyhounds led 15-14 after one quarter, but hit a rough patch in the second and trailed 31-22 at the half.
Wilmington got back on track in the third period and outscored the Sailors 22-9.
“I told the guys at halftime that we just didn’t play well in the second quarter, especially defensively,” Greyhounds coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “We got a lot of steals in the third quarter and a lot of transition points and we shot the ball much better.”
Jordan Smith was 7 of 7 from the free throw line on the night, including 6 of 6 in the fourth quarter, en route to a game-high 24-point performance.
“Those free throws were huge,” Jeckavitch said. “That sealed it for us.”
Wilmington also had no trouble making 3-point field goals throughout the night. The Greyhounds made eight from outside the arc, including three by Smith.
Rocco Fagan joined Smith in double figures with 12 points. Smith chipped in with seven rebounds and five steals, while Fagan had five assists and Jesse Hilliard four.
