Jan 27, 2014
The host Raiders took control in the second period and made it stand in a District 10, Region 2-AA win over the Greyhounds.
Reynolds (4-3 region, 11-4 overall) held a 9-7 lead after one quarter and pushed it to 29-19 at the half.
“They came out in a 3-2 zone,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “That took us by surprise a little bit. We weren’t on with our shooting; we just couldn’t get our shots to fall.”
Rocco Fagan registered a team-best 10 points for Wilmington (4-2, 9-7) and Jesse Hilliard was next with nine markers and five assists.
Kyle McConnell netted a team-best 17 markers for the Raiders.
Both teams were held to just four points each in the third quarter as Reynolds owned a 33-23 advantage going to the final frame.
“They slowed down the pace of the game,” Jeckavitch said. “We just never got in the flow of the game.
“A little bit of the third quarter was poor shooting and good defense. We just couldn’t put the ball in the hole at that point. They came up with a good game plan and executed it.”
