Laurel raced to a 22-11 lead and cruised to a 73-60 Section 2-AA road win over New Brighton last night.
Laurel (4-6, 9-8) led 38-22 at halftime and kept the lead around the 20-point mark through most of the second half until the late stages.
“We’re happy and pleased with the effort,” said second-year Spartans coach Ken Locke. “I was pleased with the guys. They were very unselfish and we ran the floor well.”
Mason Mraz led five Laurel scorers in double figures with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Josh Dando was next wth 16 markers.
Zachary Wilson and Noah Wertz each netted 12 points for the winners. Wilson pulled down eight rebounds and Wertz snared seven boards with five assists. Jacob Wilson chipped in with 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
“That kind of balance is one of the things that makes us difficult to play,” Locke said. “We have so many different guys that can score; that makes us unique.”
Craig Thompson tallied a team-high 21 points for New Brighton (2-8, 6-12).
