Aliquippa rallies past Shenango
Shenango (36) Vs. Aliquippa (48)
Jan 25, 2014
Aliquippa outscored host Shenango 32-20 in the second half, en route to a 48-36 Section 2-AA road victory last night.
The Quips (8-2, 11-5) led 29-26 going into the fourth quarter.
“We wanted it to be a low-scoring game,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “They like to press and run.
“We didn’t want to get into that with them. I was pleased with how we kept the pace where we wanted it to be. We were right there going to the fourth. They got hot to open the fourth and then we had to foul late. I’m very pleased with the effort. It’s a disappointing loss, but I thought our kids played hard and smart.”
Shenango (3-7, 7-10) built an 11-4 lead after one quarter, but settled on a 16-all stalemate at the half.
“I thought our guys did a good job of getting out on the shooters,” McQuiston said. “We wanted to walk it up the floor and have a motion offense.
“We wanted to run our sets and I thought we were really patient with our offense.”
Brenton Booher notched 15 points to lead the Wildcats.
Darrien Fields netted 12 markers to lead the Quips.
