Kylee Patton could not be contained last night.
The senior forward helped guide the Neshannock High girls basketball team to a 58-36 nonleague victory at home against Wilmington.
“We got cold and they got hot,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brian Turk said, referring to Wilmington’s 10-3 advantage after the first quarter. “We couldn’t stop Patton tonight. She was on all night long and had a heck of a game.”
Patton led all scorers with 28 points for the Lady Lancers (9-5). She sank nine field goals and was 10 of 12 from the foul line.
Caitlyn Bleggi followed with 12 markers.
“Kylee is shooting the ball really well,” Neshannock coach Greg Huston said. “She is doing everything you want your seniors to do, like stepping up in the big games.”
Wilmington (6-7) took a 22-19 lead into the half but was outscored 22-11 in the third period and 17-3 in the final quarter.
“We couldn’t put the ball in the hole because of their pressure defense,” Turk said. “We outrebounded them 52-42 but they put back everything and we didn’t do that.
“Their pressure defense held us to 14 points in the second half.”
Brooke Buchowski paced Wilmington with 12 points.
“We started out slow and couldn’t get things going in the first half,” Huston said. “The girls answered with a big second half. I’m proud of how the girls handled themselves and battled back like they did.”
