The host Lady Wildcats connected on 21 of 30 from the foul line en route to a Section 2-AA win.
“We were attacking pretty well,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We got in the bonus early in the third quarter. Knowing we had the bonus in our back pocket, our guards did a real good job of attacking the hoop.”
Angelina Sibeto was 10 of 12 in the second half and Samantha Seaburn made all four of her attempts, while Ashleigh Presnar and Jaqui Baker each connected on one.
Shenango (4-3, 8-7) trailed 16-12 after eight minutes and cut its deficit to two entering the fourth before outscoring the Lady Panthers 19-12 in the final period.
The Lady Wildcats focused their defensive efforts on Riverside’s Katie Stang, who finished with a team-high 18 points.
“A lot of it had to do with us slowing Stang down,” Turk said. “Sibeto and Presnar took turns slowing her down. Our goal was to keep her under 20.”
Seaburn paced Shenango with an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double, while Sibeto tacked on 15. Caroline Peterson also reached double figures with 10. Baker added seven points and 10 rebounds.
“It was a great section game,” Turk said. “They led until late and it took everything we had to get by them. Thankfully, we had the fouls in our favor.”
