Laurel toughs out win
Laurel (40) Vs. Beaver Falls (37)
Jan 17, 2014
The Lady Spartans battled through tired legs to post the Section 2-AA win.

“We average 55 points a game and this was our lowest amount of the season,” Lady Spartans coach Jessica Shevitz said. “We didn’t execute well on offense. This was probably our poorest shooting night of the season. I think three games in four nights finally caught up with us. The energy level was better, but we just couldn’t do what we normally do. We’ll take the win though.”

Laurel (5-2, 9-5) built a 29-22 lead through three quarters and used a prevent defense to hold off the Lady Tigers (1-5, 1-12).

“They had more legs left,” Shevitz said. “It’s a good thing we had the lead. The balls weren’t bouncing our way. That’s how the game of basketball goes.”

Ellen Shaffer led the Lady Spartans with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double. Brooke Dicks added seven points and eight steals, while Kristin Dicks tacked on nine points and seven rebounds.
