’Cats beat Mohawk in OT
Shenango (62) Vs. Mohawk (54)
Jan 15, 2014
The Shenango High boys basketball team worked a little extra to get a win last night.

The Wildcats outscored Mohawk, 13-5, in overtime to claim a 62-54 WPIAL Section 2-AA road win.

“I was real pleased that we kept our composure,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “Mohawk wasn’t going to quit. They kept battling back. The composure is a sign of we’re starting to mature and play better.”

The Warriors’ Jonathan Grim drained a field goal with 10 seconds left to knot the count at 49. The Wildcats had a chance to win it regulation, but a shot at the buzzer was just off.

Shenango (3-4, 5-7) led the whole way in overtime, going 11 of 14 at the line in the extra session to seal the win. The Wildcats were 19 of 28 at the charity stripe for the contest.

“We shot the ball well from the foul line, especially in overtime. We got after it defensively in overtime, too.”

Said Warriors coach Rob Fadden, “It wasn’t so much what they were doing in overtime. They were knocking down shots. Once we got behind, we were taking what we could get. If we couldn’t get it, we had to put them on the line.”

Mohawk (1-6, 5-8) trailed by as much as 17 points before rallying.

James Micco scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the first half for Shenango. He added seven rebounds as well. Ryley Ferrari was next with 12 markers and six assists. Ryan Smith and Brenton Booher chipped in with 11 points apiece. Booher snared seven boards as well.

Travis Giardina tossed in 15 points to lead the Warriors and Grim was next with 12. Zach Shasteen contributed 10 markers.
