Union girls defeated
Union (26) Vs. Aliquippa (43)
Jan 10, 2014
A two-point first quarter and missed free throws proved costly for the Lady Scots.
Aliquippa (5-1, 8-5) jumped out to a 10-2 lead on Union (1-3, 2-8) and never looked back.
“We were off for four days and that hurt us as evidenced by the first quarter,” Union coach Larry Ondako said. “We came out a little slow. We struggled to score early. We dug ourselves a hole and we couldn’t climb out of it.”
Union was 5 of 11 from the line in the second quarter, including missing the front end of three 1-and-1s.
“The foul line really hurt us,” Ondako said. “We didn’t make any free throws when we had the chance. When you’re struggling shooting, you can step to the line and make a few to gain some confidence. When you start missing them too, you start to think we can’t make anything.
Tyanna Harris led Union with 11 points.
