The defense delivered for the Lady Wildcats in the second half in a win over Rochester in the consolation game at the Penn State-Beaver Holiday Tournament.

Shenango (6-3) outscored the Lady Rams (1-8) in the second half, 27-8, to pull away. Rochester held an 18-12 lead at the break.

“I think we got into a slow holiday start,” Lady Wildcats coach Brian Turk said. “We did the same thing against Beaver. We wanted to make sure we came out of there with at least a split.

“I was very proud of the girls for how they stepped up. We had balanced scoring. But the biggest thing came off our defense in the second half. We weren’t rebounding or defending real well in the first half. We just buckled down from there.”

Samantha Seaburn supplied a game-high 12 points for Shenango and Carolyn Peterson was next with seven.
