Lady Lancers roll to win
Neshannock (59) Vs. West Middlesex (30)
Dec 24, 2013
The Lady Lancers pulled it together after the first quarter and cruised to a nonconference road win over the Ms. Reds.

Neshannock (8-0) led just 11-10 after the first eight minutes, before claiming a 26-15 halftime advantage. The Lady Lancers then pushed the buffer to 42-24 after three quarters.

“We didn’t start out very well,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “We were very sluggish early, but we played much better in the second half.

“The second quarter wasn’t too bad. I thought we were very complacent in the first quarter.”

Madison McHale netted a game-high 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting for the Lady Lancers. She added 12 rebounds and four steals as well.

Tayler Grybowski, the coach’s daughter, added 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She pulled down 10 boards with five steals and five assists. Erin Warvell handed out five assists as well.

Neshannock was 25 of 53 from the field, but committed a season-high 20 turnovers.

The Lady Lancers will play two more games this week, returning to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Cornell in the Neshannock Holiday Tournament.

“This is going to be a tough week,” Luann Grybowski said. “Next week will be a little bit better. If we can get through this week, we’ll be OK.

“We’re off to a good start and we’re doing some good things. We have to get better on the boards and get the turnovers down. There’s always room for improvement.”

Morgan Atterholt recorded 10 points for West Middlesex.
