Quips jump on Wildcats early
Shenango (41) Vs. Aliquippa (69)
Dec 21, 2013
Shenango rebounded from a slow first half to outscore Aliquippa over the final 16 minutes of a 69-41 Section 2-AA loss.

Shenango (0-3, 1-5) managed just six points in each of the first two quarters and found itself down 42-12 at the break. The Wildcats outscored Aliquippa (3-0, 3-2) 29-28 in the second half.

“We got off to a slow start,” Wildcats coach Bob McQuiston said. “We were rushing shots and got into a transition game, which isn’t what we wanted to do. We allowed them to dictate the pace. They’re a fast-paced team and we weren’t shooting well.

“We actually won the second half. We were making some shots and getting to the line. We have some positives in the second half to build off of. We played harder. We made extra passes. We were finishing and rebounding much better. Against a team like that, you have rebound and defend.”

Brenton Booher paced Shenango with 13, while James Micco tacked on eight.

“The kids responded well,” McQuiston said. “We could have quit, but we didn’t and got after it. We played more of a team game. If we put four quarters together like played in the second half, we could string together some wins.

“I saw the team I know we have in the second half. Guys were sprinting to spots and diving on the floor for loose balls. The kids saw we could be pretty good.”
