Dec 13, 2013
The Lady Greyhounds clamped down on defense, limiting the Lady Raiders to single digits in three quarters to cruise to the District 10 nonregion road win.
Wilmington (3-1) held Reynolds (0-4) to nine points in the first quarter, seven in the second and five in the third.
“We are able to switch it up between man-to-man and zone depending on the other team,” Lady ’Hounds coach Brandy Sanford said. “This is just a great group of girls to work with.
“It was a great defensive effort from Cassidy (Marett). She made the other team cough up the ball a lot and one of our other guards picked them up and raced down the floor with. That translated into a lot of transition points.”
Tessa Sikora led Wilmington with a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double, while Marett also reached double figures in scoring and rebounds with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alanna Elliott added 14 markers.
“We’re really coming together,” Sanford said. “They’re really playing well together. I have three girls scoring in double digits each night. Sikora is really consistent. She’s had three double-doubles so far.”
