Cold-shooting Laurel falls
Our Lady of Sacred Heart (64) Vs. Laurel (42)
Dec 11, 2013
The Spartans couldn’t find their shooting touch in their nonsection loss to visiting Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

Laurel (2-1) made just 12-of-55 shots from the field, while OLSH knocked down 23-of-63 attempts.

“Any time you shoot like that, it’s going to be hard to win games,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “We had some good looks. We just couldn’t make any. Obviously, you can’t do that against a good team and expect to win.”

OLSH’s defense clamped down on the Spartans in the second quarter, turning an eight-point advantage into a 30-16 lead at the half.

“That was probably it in a nutshell,” Locke said. “We had some good perimeter looks in the third quarter and we missed some layups, too. We played good defense and did what we needed to do on that end to hold them to 11 points. It just wasn’t our night.”

Jacob Wilson was the lone Laurel player in double figures with 14 points and added five rebounds and four steals. Freshman Mason Mraz pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to go with his eight markers.

“They’re a pretty good team,” Locke said. “I was happy with the effort. The guys played hard for four quarters. The execution just wasn’t there. The guys played hard and hustled.”
