Mohawk (39) Vs. Beaver Falls (72)
Feb 02, 2013
Mohawk’s playoff hopes took a hit in a 72-39 Section 2-AA road loss to Beaver Falls last night
Mohawk (6-6, 8-11), which has lost five of six, is tied for fourth in the section with Aliquippa (6-6, 8-11). The Warriors won the first meeting with the Quips, 58-50. The rematch is set for Tuesday at Aliquippa.
The top four teams make the playoffs, including ties if they can’t be broken.
“If we can find a way to win our last two section games, we’re in the playoffs regardless,” Mohawk coach Rob Fadden said. “We’ll be ready to go. The guys want to be in the postseason. We’ve beaten Aliquippa before, so we should have some confidence going in.”
The Tigers (12-0, 17-3), ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class AA by the Post-Gazette, built a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
“They pretty much were able to do whatever they wanted all night on both ends of the floor,” Fadden said.
Lucas Grim netted 11 points to lead Mohawk.
Elijah Cottrill tallied 21 markers for Beaver Falls.
