Lady ’Cats defeat Union
Shenango (48) Vs. Union (35)
Jan 31, 2013
The Lady Wildcats snapped an eight-game losing streak in a nonsection victory at Union last night.
“It was much needed, especially going into our last three games,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “Hopefully we can win at least one or two of those.”
Amanda Herb led the Lady Wildcats (7-11) with a double-double, scoring 14 points while grabbing 15 boards. Angelina Sibeto and Jenna Petrucci followed with 13 points each.
“Amanda’s a senior and she plays that role well,” Turk said. “She steps up in games we need her to.
“We were able to put the ball in the hole. Some of our shooters have struggled with getting baskets lately.”
Shenango keyed on containing Union’s threat of twin sisters Marissa and Miranda Heaney. The Lady Scots (10-7) gained 24 of 35 points from the duo, who led the team with 12 points each.
“We knew the two twins would have 12 to 15 points apiece. We tried to control them for the most part and hoped the others wouldn’t pick up the slack. They took plenty of shots, that’s for sure.”
Union struggled on the glass in dropping its third game in a row, getting outrebounded by a 40-32 margin.
“We’re not playing well right now. We have to be able to regroup. We just didn’t play well. We had some good looks and we missed some shots,” Lady Scots coach Brian Fadden said. “We had some opportunities, and when we would take them, the ball wasn’t going in.”
