Ellwood blows big lead, falls
Freedom (66) Vs. Ellwood City (53)

The Wolverines blew a 15-point halftime lead in a nonsection loss at Freedom last night.
“We played well in the first half,” first-year Ellwood City coach Anthony Ovial said. “I thought Matt Young shot the ball very well in the first.”
Young nailed a career-high five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 15 points. After holding Freedom to 17 first-half points, the Wolverines surrendered 49 in the second half.
“I think Young’s effort really disguised our performance on the glass in the first half,” Ovial said. “It was four quarters of watching them beat us up on the glass. In the second half, it started to weigh on us.”
Nick Aloi paced Ellwood City with 27 points, including 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. The guard has scored at least 20 points in his last three games.
“He did a nice job getting to the line and getting buckets for us,” Ovial said. “Offensively, we had no real issues. We couldn’t secure stops defensively. It’s tough when that happens.”
