Aliquippa outlasts Lancers
Aliquippa (95) Vs. Neshannock (87)
Jan 30, 2013
The Neshannock defense stumbled in a loss at Aliquippa in Section 2-AA action.
“We didn’t show up. Aliquippa wanted to beat Neshannock more than Neshannock wanted to beat Aliquippa, so they won,” Lancers coach John Corey said.
Neshannock (7-4, 14-4) surrendered no less than 18 points per quarter, including 38 in the fourth quarter in allowing a season-high 95 to the Quips.
“They pushed the ball well in transition. We didn’t come out and shoot the ball exceptionally well,” Corey said. “We didn’t play hard, and that’s why we gave up 42 points in the first half. Our effort wasn’t nearly good enough to come close to winning on the road.”
Ernie Burkes scored a season-high 34 points for Neshannock, including six 3-pointers. Matt McKinney tallied 21 points with three 3-pointers.
Aliquippa (6-5, 7-10) remained alive in the Section 2-AA playoff hunt and is currently in a three-way tie with Riverside and Mohawk for third.
Shawn Queze Adamson registered 28 points for the Quips with 9 of 11 shooting from the foul line. Malik Stewart followed with a 19-point effort.
