Jan 25, 2013
Devon Giancola and Shelby Brown propelled Mohawk to a Section 2-AA road win over Laurel.
Giancola tallied a game-high 16 points and Brown was next with 14 for the Lady Warriors.
It’s the fourth straight win for first-place Mohawk (9-0, 13-5). The Lady Warriors are two games up on second-place Beaver Falls (7-2, 9-8) with three to play.
Paige Ruby chipped in with 10 markers for the winners.
Rachael Baker paced the Lady Spartans (2-6, 5-11) with 13 points. Jessica Conrad and Ellen Shaffer tossed in eight apiece. Conrad, a junior, added a game-best 15 rebounds to go along with five steals as well.
“I thought Conrad played her heart out tonight. She was all over the court,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “She wanted this game. She played like a senior. She worked hard and the whole team did.
“Mohawk is in first place and undefeated for a reason. We knew we would have to come out and play a complete game against them.”
