Sharon (62) Vs. Wilmington (47)
Jan 25, 2013
The Lady Greyhounds turned the ball over 28 times in a District 10, Region 2-AA home loss to Sharon.
“We beat ourselves,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “They have a nice team, but we’re not going to beat anyone with that many turnovers.”
The Lady Tigers (5-2, 8-6), coached by 2004 New Castle High graduate Maria Joseph, built a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
“It’s a big victory for us,” Joseph said. “Wilmington is improving. I’m proud of my girls and happy we came out of there with a win.”
The game marked the lone visit to a Lawrence County school this year for Joseph’s Sharon squad.
“A lot of my family and friends made it out to watch the game,” Joseph said. “It was nice to see them in the stands.”
Tessa Sikora recorded a team-high 13 points for the Lady Greyhounds (3-4, 5-10). Carly Christofferson and Sarah Slonaker added nine each.
Sanford was back on the bench after serving a one-game suspension for getting ejected from a contest last week.
Tanayja Sanders netted a game-high 20 points for the Lady Tigers.
“I think she played well,” Joseph said. “She gets up beat up pretty well under the hoop, but she doesn’t get discouraged.”
