The Lady Warriors couldn’t contain Hopewell’s Shatori Walker-Kimbrough in dropping a matchup in the Coaches vs. Cancer Clash of the Titans at Geneva.
Walker-Kimbrough, a Maryland recruit, led all scorers with 32 points for the Lady Vikings.
“She’s ultimately the tough matchup,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “She’s impossible to guard at our level.
“She’s not one-dimensional; she’s the best we’ve faced by far.”
Devon Giancola led the Lady Warriors (9-5) with eight points.
Mohawk trailed 27-15 at the half and cut it to 10 at 32-22 early in the third quarter. But Hopewell (12-1), ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL in Class AAA by the Post-Gazette, rattled off 10 straight points to put the game away.
“In the blink of an eye it was up to 20 points,” O’Lare said. “We schedule games like this because we want to get tested; it can’t hurt you.
“It gets you a loss. But for our kids to be good, they have to play the best that’s out there. As long as we can continuously rebound in section play and get our wins, the kids will be fine.”
