Reynolds edges Wilmington
Reynolds (60) Vs. Wilmington (56)
Jan 09, 2013
Wilmington lost another close decision, this time to visiting Region 2-AA rival Reynolds.
The Greyhounds (0-2, 3-6) have dropped four straight games, all by six points or less.
“We turned the ball over with seven seconds to go when we were down by two,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “They scored a layup to make it four. You can’t make those kind of mistakes.”
Wilmington got off to a slow start, trailing 31-14 at the break.
“We played very uninspired basketball in the first half,” Jeckavitch said. “We were slow defensively and they made us pay for it. We’re playing bad basketball right now.”
Reynolds (1-2, 6-4) got to the line often, converting on 15 of 26 free-throw opportunities in picking up its first region win.
Jordan Smith finished with a double-double for the Greyhounds with a 19-point, 10 rebound effort. The Wilmington star was held to 16 total points in the last two games after scoring a career-high 31 against Shenango.
“Jordan Smith was a bright spot,” Jeckavitch said. “He really came to play after having two sub par performances.”
Jesse Hilliard was next for the Greyhounds with 15 points. Rocco Fagan finished with 14.
